RARE! Blue and gilt etched, when nearly all British Royal Naval Officer’s / Midshipman’s dirks were grey / gray etched. The blade’s ricasso / forte etched to retailer Rotheram of Malta.
The 17 3/4 inch blue and gilt etched blade is in good condition, some wear and patina, the etching rubbed more or less, firm in the hilt. The hilt good, scabbard locking pin and mechanism present and working. The sword knot with wear and fraying is grubby but sound. The fishskin grip is good but grubby, the twisted grip wire bindings a little loose / wayward in places are nonetheless good. The leather with brass fittings scabbard is aged / worn but good, the top fitting moves up and down a little. The dirk sheathes and draws well, the locking mechanism holds the scabbard well.
