The short version of the 1821 pattern British Royal Artillery Officer’s sword was favoured by volunteer and mounted field artillery regiment officers. This one has no maker’s name or brass proof stud to identify the maker, but is quality made as anyone can see. Unlike full length 1821p scabbards, which have two suspension mounts / rings, the short versions have a frog button.

The very well etched blade, including field artillery motif, is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The three bar steel guard / hilt has some patina and is in good condition. The fishskin grip with some age / wear is generally good, except it only has a single grip wire remaining. The steel field service scabbard has a steady patina (with darker patches) and a few dings around the chape (indicative of active field use), but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A really very nice example of an 1821p British field artillery officer’s short / mounted version sword in well above average condition for a mere £625. Please quote item reference AI58. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2083 84 x 17 x 17 (2.04).
