Etched to cutler / retailer “Gardiner & Co, Argyle Street, Glasgow” to the forte / ricasso, which dates this sword to pre-1891.
The 32 3/4 inch blade is worn / aged with some pitting towards the point but remains in good condition and firm in the hilt. The impressive solid steel basket hilt has some age but is in very good condition. The fishskin grip is aged and worn but good, though some of the twisted grip bindings are gone. The period blackened steel scabbard has age / wear and has lost the ball final off its chape, but is in fairly good condition with the sword sheathing and drawing quite well.
