Looks new (scabbard could use some boot polish or similar), but the sword is around 100 years old! It clearly was not sold to anyone as no maker’s / retailer’s name to the forte / ricaso, and the brass proof stud is blank; so, almost certainly a maker’s sales sample. Ideal for a serving RN or Commonwealth officer as it has the King’s Crown (not Queen Elizabeth’s crown) and no royal cypher (it has the typical Edwardian period British royal coat of arms). If you are a Royal Naval officer who baulks at modern swords, this is for you!

The 31 1/2 inch supremely well etched blade is in virtually as new condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt with much gilt remaining is very good, as are the real (not faux) fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings; the folding guard section has not been engraved and is in good working order, locating as it should onto the retaining pin of the scabbard. The leather of the scabbard has some age fading and a small ding to a brass fitting but is otherwise very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Save for superficial age / wear to the scabbard, this sword is as good as new IOHO. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AI42. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2005 102 x 15 x 16 (1.41).
