George V, so Edwardian period / WW1 era. Officer’s initials engraved to scabbard locket, “W.J.P.C”; rudementary research suggests this is for William James Pearce Carnell. No maker’s / retailer’s details etched to blade, perhaps suggesting a war time dirk when production needs were most important.

The 18 inch blade with crowned GVR cipher, fouled anchor and royal arms with scrolling foliage is a little worn etc. but in good condition and firm in the hilt. The regulation hilt with gilt brass mounts is in good condition, as is the twisted wire bound white fish skin covered grip (a little gruby in places). Dirk knot a little worn and frayed, is nonetheless sound / quite good. The leather and brass scabbard is a little scuffed in places but good. The locking mechanism works well. The dirk sheathes and draws well. The all weather carry bag is a tad aged with some surface age hairline surface cracks / creasing, but still good.
A terrific little ensemble at a terrific little / low price, £600. Please quote item reference AI27. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1947 69 x 14 x 14 (1.10).
