The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Officer’s Wilkinson Sword of Henry Albert Victor Spencer, who previously served with the West Yorkshire (Prince of Wales’s Own) Regiment.
Blade with serial number 63236 for 28th February 1933, etched initials H.A.V.S., confirmed by the Wilkinson sales ledger for H A V Spencer (KOYLI), who served throughout World War 2 and is the author of the book “A Short History of the Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire – XIV and XV Foot – 1685-1966”.

The 32 5/8 inch blade has some aging (grey tarnishing) but would likely shine up with metal polish if desired; there is a little patina here and there, nothing much. Blade firm in the hilt; some tarnishing and a little light rust (to the backpiece and edges of the guard), nothing much. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are good. The leather sword knot is a little aged but sound. The leather field service scabbard in good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Good sword with full provenance for an interesting Yorkshire regiment officer, just £550. Please quote item reference AI25. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1943 107 x 15 x 16 (1.86).
