Thomas Compton Pakenham was a British-American journalist who served with the Coldstream Guards during WW1; he made Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded the Military Cross; read about him here and also here.
Serial number 56297 confirmed by the Wilkinson Sales Ledger to have been sold to Captain Packenham of the Coldstream Guards on the 16th April 1919, just after WW1. His initials, T. C. P etched to the blade.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is aged / worn but still good, with Coldstream Guards badge, battle honours, etc., and is firm in the hilt. The plated steel hilt / guard with Coldstream Guards badge to the cartouche does have age (plating wear, some rust coming off the steel), especially on the inside of the guard, but is still good. The fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are aged / faded but still good. The leather field service scabbard has age and scrapes but is still fairly good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice sword, made nicer by the original officer owner. Great value at £650. Please quote item reference AI23. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1957 107 x 15 x 16 (1.632).
