Engraved to (Royale) Kingenthal October 1814, Royale not Imperial as Napoleon was in exile (March 1814 to May 1815) before returning the lead the French at Waterloo. The authenticity of the date confirmed by the three correct French inspection / acceptance marks (poinçons) of Borson, Bick and Lobstein plus the hilt poinçon of Bisch.
This sword’s blade has been spear pointed which indicates it was present at Waterloo; the blades were actually made with hatchet points but the French ordered all points to be ground down to spear points just before Waterloo for better piercing aability. The fact this sword has the unaltered pre-1816 grip, has not been converted to a m1816 (the guard if the 1816 model having forward facing edges) and has no post 1815 poinçons, and that is has been in the UK for time immemorial, says this sword 99.9% is a Waterloo battle trophy.
This sword stands out particularly due to the original grip being in such very good condition; we know it is orriginal as it only has 12 grip binding turns (post Waterloo, swords were given new grips with 16+ grip turns).

The awesome 37 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The heavy solid brass guard / hilt is also in very good condition. The original leather grip is remarkably in very good condition too and has its original twisted grip wire bindings still in place (most are lost). The heavy steel scabbard has age and some rust pitting (kept / protected the blade in exceptional condition) but is still very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A stunningly good Napoleonic Waterloo era French Cuirassier sword in well above average condition; yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AI18. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1934 117 x 15 x 16 (3.492).
