Marked to Dawes Birmingham on the blade’s spine, dating the sword from 1796 to 1802. Etched “XXII LD” to the blade (and marked the same to the scabbard), making this a super rare original 22nd Light Dragoons (as raised by Viscount Feilding) trooper’s sabre / sword (see William, Viscount Feilding and 22nd Dragoons).
The 32 inch blade is in very good condition, the point with some slight period damage likely from use, and firm in the hilt (the original leather scabbard stopper is absent). The hilt / guard with age is good. The leather bound grip is aged and worn but good. The steel scabbard has a steady patina and light speckled pitting, plus a few small dings towards the drag, but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
