The pronounced hamon but apparent lack of grain, plus the fact there is no mass produced blade Showa / Seki stamp, plus it was made quite late in the war, means this is likely a very high grade private purchase Showato.
TAKAMASA (高正), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Takamasa” (高正), real name Yasuda Yoshitarō (安田芳太郎), born April 7th 1912, he worked as a guntō smith and made some traditonally forged blades.
The 26 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade with its large / wide hamon is in good condition but has several light patina patches. The tsuka and tsuba related fittings are all good. The same rayskin and ito bindings grip are good. Blade firm in the hilt. The saya / scabbard has some marks but is very good. The sword sheathes and draws well; the locking pin (saya securing mechanism) works well.
