The etching feint but still visible. Scarcer black fishskin version for a junior officer. Circa 1840 (1837 was when Victoria ascended the throne, 1845 when fullered blades were used). When Britain truly did rule the waves.

The curved pipe back 29 inch blade has some patina / light inert rust patches, but is still good and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard is good, the folding section still working. The impressive large ray skin nodules grip is in very condition save for the original junior officer blackening has faded. The associated twisted grip wire bindings are good. The leather with brass fittings scabbard is a little floppy but still good for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
