By repute, the WW1 Irish Guards officer’s Wilkinson Sword of Lieut (becoming Captain) D S Browne, MC (Military Cross). Lieutenant / Captain D S Browne was referred to as the “Company Commander” in Rudyard Kipling’s harrowing account of the Irish Guards’ crossing of the Broembeek, during the Battle of Paschendaele on the 9th October 1917, see “Irish Guards in the Great War” by Kipling.
Serial number 52408 is one of the lost Wilkinson customer records for WW1, so we have no documented absolute proof it was his. But the only Irish Guards officer we could find with those initials was for D S Browne himself, so it confirms what we were told.

The 32 inch dress weight blade is in good condition but with some age, mostly patina patches and wear. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt with the guards emblem with shamrock clover to the cartouche has age, inert rust, but is fairly good still. The fishskin grip is a little discoloured from age and wear, but is still good, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The leather field service scabbard is aged / scuffed, but still fairly good and sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A great piece of history made even greater by Rudyard Kipling no less! Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH84. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1885 100 x 16 x 15 (1.33).
