“Sakai Kaneshige” (兼茂), real name Sakai Katsutoshi (酒井勝利). Born March 1906 (Meiji 19). He was from Gifu and registered as a Seki swordsmith on Showa 16 (April 1941).
The sayajiri (fitting over the scabbard tip is absent). There is a lot of apparent ware; this appears to be irregular pitting.
The 28 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade has ware / irregular pitting, scuffs and stains but is overall good and firm in the tsuka / grip. Fittings (bindings, same / rayskin, menuki, tsuba, fuchi, etc.) good. Saya / scabbard good, but lower fitting absent. The sword sheaths and draws well; the locking pin mechanism works and holds the saya in place.
Good example, great price; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH82. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1871 102x16x16 (2.085).
