Etched simply to quality military retailer “Gieves” at the forte / ricasso, this George V Royal Air Force officer’s sword dates to the mid 1930’s, just before the outbreak of World War Two. Wilkinson made Gieves’ swords for them; the typical (for the period) “S” proof slug likely is for “Seagrove”, a Gieves company name. It is almost certain the original officer owner served during the war. VGC. Near or for many in parade ground condition.
Guaranteed authentic; this sword pattern is widely generically reproduced, but this is one of the rare genuine articles, guaranteed.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is well etched and in very good condition; some scuffs / wear and very light inert rust patches, but nothing major to say the least. Blade firm in the hilt. The guard retains much gilt; a very small surface hairline crack to one small part of the plating, but overall really very good. The white fishskin grip is in excellent condition; so too are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The black leather and gilt fittings scabbard is very good save for some surface leather scuffs (hint: black shoe polish will make these almost invisible). The sword sheaths and draws well.
