Etched “Gieve Matthew & Seagrove Ltd” to the ricasso / forte, dating this Wilkinson Sword made RN officer’s dirk from 1907 to 1911. Original owner / officer’s initials “K M F”; research potential!
The exceptionally well grey / gray etched 18 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition for a WW1 RN dirk, some scuffs and tiny inert rust spots, firm in the grip and hilt. The hilt in very good condition (remaining old / period white brass cleaner in grooves will come out if desired with spirit and care). The fishskin grip most very good but has a small scuff chip; the twisted grip wire bindings very good but a lesser strand slightly astray near the grip scuff. The know with age and fraying is nonetheless sound. The scabbard good. The dirk sheathes and draws well; the locking pin mechanism works well.
A Wilkinson Sword made officer research able WW1 RN midshipman’s dirk in well above average condition for only £700. Please quote item reference AH30. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1695-88x15x14 (1.444)
