The blade’s bohi (groove) and shooting star habaki (brass blade collar) indicate this shin gunto was for a respected (or pretentious) World War Two Imperial Japanese army officer. The signature and date inscription appear to be “Noshu Seki Ju Masanaga” “September 1942”. There is a Seki acceptance stamp.

The 25 1/2 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade has been over cleaned and has some inert rust pitting spots near the habaki, but is overall good. Everything firm. The leather saya (scabbard) is aged, scuffed, etc. and the retention strap popper has gone, and the corresponding leather band and strap is well aged, the popper clasp gone. The katana sheathes and draws well.
A good bohi bladed example at an unusually low price. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH16. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1657-104x15x14 (1.834).
