This “Gothic Hilt” British infantry officer’s sword comes complete with leather field service scabbard, frog and knot. The ricasso / forte is marked with cursive text / design, rather than a maker’s or retailer’s details, but I can not say what it is. The scabbard is later and may accept a slightly wider blade but is probably / likely a replacement bought by the original officer.
The 32 5/16 well etched blade slightly slender blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt / grip. The black fishskin grip is a little worn but good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Sword knot with age one section broken but good overall. Leather scabbard and frog aged but still good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very nice looking example at a great price: £500. Please quote item reference AH13. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1662-100x15x14 (1.386).
