Brass scabbard for senior officer (Captain, Adjutant, etc.). Quality etching. No maker’s details to forte / ricasso so either sold through a small military outfitters or where the officer did not want a maker’s or retailer’s details etched to his blade. The hilt type is commonly referred to as “Gothic”.
The very well etched 32 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The gothic hilt / guard good (minimal indenting of guard bars – these soft brass look great but did suffer from weakness). The fishskin grip good, some signs of age / shrinkage around / under the back piece / fading (can be improved with liquid shoe polish if desired); associated twisted grip wire bindings very good. Original sword knot aged / worn but remarkably good for age. The brass scabbard has a kink both sides towards the chape but is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very attractive and iconic Gothic hilt sword for just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH12. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1659-102x15x14 (1.848)
