Etched at the ricasso / forte to Moore, Late Bicknell & Moore, 1 Old Bond Street London, plus it has a pre-1845 pipe-back blade and Victorian Cypher, which dates the sword to between 1840 and 1845. This is not a reservist voluntary rifles sword, this is a true front line regiment officer’s sword, with steel field use scabbard (the Rifle Brigade eventually became known as the Green Jackets).
The 32 1/4 inch supremely well etched blade is in excellent condition, especially considering its age, and firm in the hilt / grip. The hilt / guard with age / patina / light rust is nonetheless good. The fishskin grip has some age and a little wear but is still good, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. The steel field service scabbard has lost some of its original chemical browning and has wear but is still good. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
A really gorgeous fearsome looking sword at a lovely low price for a pipe-back in this condition, just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH08. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1658 103x15x14 (1.837).
