No maker’s / retailer’s details etched to the ricasso / forte, so probably circa 1917 at the height of WW1 when numbers were more important than detail, though this is a quality sword. The wear damage to the chape of the scabbard is a sure indication this sword was worn / carried in active service on the battlefield.
The 33 inch blade is in good condition (some patina / staining towards the point, less around the etching) and firm in the grip, though the cross bar is loose (quite common). Grip in good condition, both the fishskin and twisted grip wire. Leather field service scabbard with wear damage towards chape, otherwise good, as is the sword frog and straps. The sword draws and sheathes well.
A truly great evocative cross hilt. Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH03. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1631-108x15x14 (1.661).
