Guaranteed authentic. Most likely a Waterloo battle trophy (British vet bring back). Dated July 1812 to the blade’s spine with the correct inspection marks (Poinçons) for Krantz, Bick and Lobstein to the forte and hilt / guard. Several period nicks (patina / no burr) show this sword has been used in battle.
The 34 5/8 inch blade is overall good but has some former rust pitting to the point end, firm in the hilt. The solid brass hilt / guard with some age / tarnish / wear and grazes is nonetheless good. The original leather grip has age and wear, some patch loss appearing, but sound and both brass grip “olives” are present. The original heavy steel scabbard is good but has both patina and speckled rust pitting, especially towards the drag. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Much more difficult to source than the French heavy cavalry trooper’s sword, this An XI light cavalry saber will only appreciated in value. was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AG82. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1525-117x15x14 (3.135).
