The ivory grip shows this sword was once owned / held by a senior officer, perhaps Captain rank, in the British Royal Navy. The 1805 pattern was introduced the same year as the Battle of Trafalgar.
The 31 3/4 inch blade has much blue & gilt etch remaining but some areas of pitting along the edge primarily around the furthest part of the etching. Blade firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / stirrup retaining some gilt. The ivory grip in good condition; the twisted grip wire bindings are good but there is some wayward looseness to lesser strands in places. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is sound to good, the leather good for age, the brass chape (lower fitting) a bit bashed. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very nice example and would sell elsewhere for much more; just was £? (too late, now sold) here. Please quote item AG68. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1500-117x15x14 (1.455).
