Unmistakably British but look at the remaining blue and gilt etch at the forte and you will see the blade is French. So this British naval dirk has a captured French blade. This was quite a regular occurrence and really gives this dirk some evocative history.
The 16 inch fighting blade is in good condition but most of the original blue and gilt etching has worn off. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt and twisted silver metal wire grip as good. The sheath has age but is sound / good. The dirk sheathes and draws well.
A great piece for sure at a piece of the price that it should be; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AG64. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1507-71x11x11 (0.553).
