Black fishskin grip and round plain / domed pommel confirm this is a scarce Master at Arms (Warrant Officer’s) sword. Etched at the forte / ricasso “Wilkinson & Co, St James’s St, Southsea” (Wilkinson & Co, 16 St James’s Street, Southsea), not the famous Wilkinson Sword company but a small naval outfitter, making this scarce sword pattern, rare!

The 31 1/4 inch blade does have a small number of small inert rust patches, but not too many, and is firm in the hilt. The brass guard / hilt is good, as are the fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings; some age, but not much. The original sword not is aged, frayed in places, a little grubby, but sound. The leather part of the scabbard has lost most of its smooth surface but remains good. The folding guard section works well and locates properly onto the scabbard’s retaining pin on the top brass fitting. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Be careful, by the time you realize what a scarce sword at a low price this is, it will be gone! was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AG29. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1401-101x19x17 (2.093).
