George III cypher under crown to the blade confirms this was sold to the Royal Navy. Possibly around at the time of the famous Battle of Trafalgar (21st October 1805).
The 27 3/8 inch period sharpened blade has apparently seen some form of action as the cutting edge towards the point has an indentation and roughness, plus the blade is not perfectly straight in that area. The blade itself past that is very sound but has pitting. Blade with correct GR royal cypher is firm in the hilt. The figure of eight hilt / guard with age but good. The “pineapple” ribbed grip with age / wear but good.
