Kokura Arsenal serial number 72730 to blade for early mid war. Earlier manufacture scabbard (serial number 43666). We guarantee this is an authentic WW2 Japanese shin gunto, not one of the hundreds of reproductions being sold as genuine.
The 26 5/16 inch (cutting edge) very sharp blade is in very good condition. The grip / tsuka is very good and retains much original finish. Everything is nice and firm. The saya / scabbard has a few dings / dents, very likely from combat use. Scabbard retains some original camouflage paint. The retaining grub (screw) for the scabbard throat / mouth piece is missing but the piece seems secure enough. The sword sheathes and draws well. The retaining spring clip works but does not click into the saya retention hole.
A good example with the rarer solid round iron tsuba / guard. Well worth was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number AF65. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 1168-101x18x17 (2.351).
