Claymore blades were at a price premium to the standard fullered blade, so only important, wealthy, Scottish or pretentious officers tended to buy them!
The 29 1/2 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt but has some some wear and patina spots. The hilt is overall good and the folding guard section works well. The fishskin grip is good but some of the twisted grip wire strands are gone. The scabbard aged but sound. The sword sheathes and draws well, and the locking pin locates into the folding guard section as it should.
A claymore bladed RN sword for just was £? (too late, now sold) and worth every penny. Please quote item reference number AD95. Full sized / additional photos available upon request. Box 0626-1m (1.728).
