Marked “E + S 9” under a hilt quillon for Engineers and Sappers sword 9, this is an 1800’s pattern British army musician’s sword with a high quality / value wootz steel blade (wootz steel blades were made in India from special high carbon steel and were greatly prized).
The 24 inch blade has a steady dark patina throughout and some pitting but is still sound. A little movement in the hilt. The brass hilt with wear and knocks but overall good.
