Etched “Hawkes & Co Ltd Sword Cutler 1 Saville Row London W1” to the ricasso / forte. This is a rare Edward 8th British Infantry officer’s sword, dating it to 1936 because this king reigned only during 1hat year. Serial number 9044 to spine.
The 32 7/8 inch well etched blade has age, mostly towards the point; firm in the hilt. The period chemically browned hilt with EVIII royal cypher to the guard has some light inert corrosion patched but is still good. The black faux fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are in very good condition. The leather field service scabbard and belts are in aged but fairly good to good condition; the leather surface around the chape is riding up through active service wear. The sword sheathes and draws well.
