Note the brass scabbard (not leather with brass fittings), no scabbard retaining pin, nor hole to the folding guard, plus a “Proved” stud to the blade (likely British made); circa WW1, not later WW2. Black (faded) grip for a junior officer (making it even scarcer).
The 30 1/4 inch blade has age (only feint remnants of etching, course cutting edge, steady full length patina) but is in sound condition and firm in the hilt. The spectacular gilt brass hilt / guard is in good condition; the folding guard section has no hole (as early brass scabbard has no retaining pin). The brass scabbard has a full break 9covered by black tape) and several dents; the sword sheathes and draws with support.
