Normally, these American Revolutionary War of Independence era English army swords are marked to reservist militias (so never saw action); this one is not, so likely was held by a regular / front line British infantryman.
The quillon which normally is broken off is present on this 1751 pattern (model) hanger.
The blade is marked with a running fox with “S H”; the Trademark of Samueal Harvey, England’s foremost sword maker in Birmingham England of this time.
This sword blade has three minor period nicks (patina runs into the nicks, very little burr) on the cutting edge; a sure sign that this hanger saw battle.
The 24 3/4 inch blade is plain except for Samuel Harveys running fox trademark and in good condition (except for the aforementioned nicks) with a steady age patina. The blade is firm in the solid brass hilt. The one piece (two halves joined together over the tang) hilt / guard is aged bu good, as is the spiral grip.
