VGC = Very Good Condition. No serial number to date it; the Black Watch (Royal Regiment of Scotland) officer probably associated serial numbers with issued swords and stipulated his Scottish Basket Hilted Wilkinson Sword / Broadsword was to have none. Finely etched with the Black Watch badge and name, plus ERII for Queen Elizabeth 2nd, this sword likely date to circa 1980.
NB This sword has a screw pommel, enabling the hilt to be removed and cleaned / replaced with a cross hilt (not present); care should be taken not to over tighten the pommel and damage the screw thread.
The supremely well etched 32 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The plated steel basket hilt is in VGC; the faux fishskin grip has some nibbles (tiny patches of loss) at the two ends of the twisted grip wire bindings (which themselves are in VGC). The scarlet guard insert with Royal Blue edgings is also in very good condition. The plated steel scabbard has a little age but remains in very good condition. The sword sheathes an draws well.
