Flag officer‘s early Victorian British Royal Naval sword with acorn and oak leaves designating flag officer (Admiral) rank. Etched at forte and embossed on the scabbard’s top locket to quality retailer “N.J. CURRIE, 20 Regent Street, Waterloo Place, London”. The pipe back blade dating this sword to between 1837 when Queen Victoria was coronated and 1845 when the fullered blade replaced pipe backs.
The quill point pipe back 31 inch slightly curved blade is etched with scrolling foliage, stands of arms, crowned fouled anchor and retailer’s tablet panel has patches of grey staining / patina, is overall in good condition and firm in the hilt. The regulation gilt brass hilt incorporating a folding guard section, crowned fouled anchor and lion’s head pommel is in very good condition for its age. The white fishskin grip is a little grey aged but very good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather and gilt brass scabbard is aged but still good and well above average. The sword sheathes and draws well.
