NB The previous owner removed to ivory grip “scales” to bring it into the UK without any drama (most people would simply have posted it without doing that). You can sometimes get faux ivory (plastic) grip scales for these from sword makers. Retailer’s / maker’s name is too feint to determine.
The 30 3/4 inch blade has wear / age throughout and even some light pitting towards the point, but is otherwise good and firm in the hilt. The hilt is in good condition, minus its grip scales of course. The brass scabbard has verdigris (tarnish) generally plus multiple dings towards the chape, but is quite good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A good home improvement project, a no ivory Victorian British Army General’s Mameluke Sword & Scabbard for £400. Please quote item reference ZU33. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box?
