Etched to the 1st Sussex Artillery Volunteers, retailer Hobson & Sons, Little Windmill St., London, and original owner / officer’s initials “GJW”; the later hopefully allowing for research.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, a slight tiny bend to the very point, well etched, firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is in good condition. The fishskin grip is a little aged / worn but remains good; the twisted grip wire is mostly missing. The steel scabbard is mostly good but has age / wear and a small scuff dent to one edge. The leather sword knot it aged and grubby but sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
