VGC = Very Good Condition
Signed “Emura saku”, Chounsai Emura was a highly respected superior blade maker during WW2; Click Here to read about him.
This katana length Imperial Japanese army officer’s shin gunto sword is made even more valuable / collectible because it comes with the officer’s sword knot, which means it was taken off him (or his body), not a post mass surrender sword, as Japanese officers removed their sword knots (if they could) to preserve some dignity / honour.
The 27 inch nagasa (cutting edge section excluding habaki) high quality gendaito blade is in very good condition but could do with a professional polish, some wear / scuffing, firm in the hilt / tsuka. The “furniture” (tsuba, menuki, fuchi, etc.) are in very good condition, but the “same” rayskin grip base has some small breakage one side around the mekugi peg. The sword knot in aged, slightly faded but good condition. The saya / Scabbard is good, some wear / age. The sword sheathes and draws well (taking care of the locking pin); the locking pin mechanism works.
