Etched at the forte to maker “Buckmaster 3 New Burlington St London”, this sword is pre 1845 due to the blade type, so dates from 1837 when Queen Victoria became queen, to 1845 when the fullered blade was adopted / regulated. Read about the Ceylon Rifles (Ceylon Rifle Regiment) here.
The tablet etched 32 inch pipe back blade is worn (etching a little feint) but in good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard has age and wear but remains good. The fishskin grip has wear and age but remains quite good and sound; the twisted grip wire bindings are partly obscured by the original owner’s hardened sweat but remain present / good. The steel field service scabbard is aged with a very small ding one side, but remains good, very good for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
