VGC = very good condition. RN = (British) Royal Navy
Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Michael Frank Woolliams was a Communications Officer in the Royal Navy who entered service around 1945 and became a commissioned officer in 1952. He died on June 29th, 2001, (apparently while at HMS Raleigh).
The 31 3/16 inch blade is generally very good but has a patch of inert rust pitting / patina. Blade firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt is good and the folding guard section works well. The white fishskin grip is a tad grubby, but very good; the twisted grip wire bindings are very good. The sword knot is a little aged but still very good. The leather with brass fitting scabbard is a little aged / worn / scuffed but still good. The sword sheathes and draws well and the folding guard locks onto the scabbard’s retaining pin The belts are worn / aged but good.
