An obvious copy of the British 1804P Royal Naval cutlass, this edged weapon has the Swedish Crown acceptance mark, made by both Britain and Prussia for the Swedes to fight the Russians with in the Russo-Swedish War of 1788–1790 (mainly naval battles; see here). The “pineapple grip” refers to a naval sword with a steel or iron chequered ridged handle. The term “Figure of Eight” refers to the guard which, if flattened, would resemble the number eight.
If you love the British 1804p RN cutlass, you need one of these copycat Swedish m1849’s in your collection!
The 28 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is in good condition, as is the steel “pineapple” grip. No scabbard.
