Gerald Faulkner Pain was a midshipman aboard HMS Hood just before World War Two; you can read about Commander / Captain Gerald Faulkner Pain here and here. “GFP” initials marked to the carry case, this sword was bought by us from his family. No maker’s or retailer’s details to the blade or elsewhere.
The faintly etched 31 inch blade has wear and age but is good and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard has lost its gilt finish and has some patches of black patina but remains good with the folding guard section works well. The white fishskin grip is grubby in places; the lesser strands of the twisted grip wire bindings are very slightly astray in places, but sound. The leather and brass scabbard has age, scuffs and a small kink but is good; the sword sheathes and draws well. The leather carry bag is aged and worn but good.
