Gothic brass hilt, fullered blade, folding guard = 1845 pattern. Brass scabbard for senior officer. Etched at the forte / ricasso to retailer “Ponder & Son, Duke St, St James’s, London”. Circa 1850.
The 32 inch blade, etched with VR Victorian cyphers, is in a little aged / worn condition, plus firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt with folding guard section is in good condition despite a slight compression to the knucklebow. The black fishskin grip is a little aged / worn, especially under the pommel, but good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The brass scabbard has some age / wear but is very good. The sword sheathes and draws well if a little loosely.
