Etched at the forte “K & S” for Kirschbaum and Schnitzer of Solingen (later, it appears, they became “S & K” / “Schnitzer / Schnitzler and Kirschbaum”). The scabbard only has a suspension frog mount, not suspension rings, so likely is an early m1821.
The 28 1/2 inch part etched blade is in very good condition, some fading to the blue and gilt etching, plus firm in the hilt. The brass guard and hilt are good, but maybe the front bar has some distortion. The leather grip a little aged / worn in placess; the the twisted grip wire bindings are generally good. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good, though the leather has age / some cracking / scuffing / bubbling etc. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A very good early blue and gilt etched modele 1821 infatnry officer’s sword for a very good price, just £700. Please quote item reference AI75. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 2135 93 x 13 x 13 (1.375).
