Guaranteed authentic (be careful, many are reproductions). Correctly marked on the blade’s spine to maker Châtellerault février 1842, and with their poinçons (inspection stamps) to the forte. Blade engraved / etched with French anchor both sides.
The 26 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The large period blackened steel bowl guard and grip are both very good. The leather of the scabbard has some age and the brass fittings a steady brown patina but are good in total. The cutlass sheathes and draws well.
