VGC = very good condition. This is a guaranteed authentic WW2 Imperial Japanese Aemy NCO’s (model 1935 / type 95) Shin Gunto sword. Be warned: many less knowledgeable and dishonest vendors sell reproductions as authentic. We guarantee this is an authentic Type 95 World War Two Imperial Japanese Army Non Commissioned Officer”s Shin Gunto (AKA the Model 1935 Pattern as it came into service in that year).
How to avoid reproductions: Common errors made by the Indian reproducers include; a) the bohi blade groove being not close enough to the habaki brass blade collar, b) the pommel’s sarute / sword knot steel loop is too long (dishonest sellers remove these to try and hide the fact), etc.
Matching sword and scabbard serial numbers: 70619 (mid World War Two).

The 27 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt (tsuka) is in aged / worn but good condition. The saya / scabbard has lost most of its original colour but remains good; a couple of minor dings towards the chape. The scabbard locking mechanism works well. The sword sheathes and draws well.
