Often bought as a Champagne cork remover sword. Cruely termed a “Cabbage Chopper” by the British. This French M1831 Gladius Short Sword for an Infantry / Artillery / Foot Soldier is well worn / used.
The plain 19 inch blade has a nick (to the cutting edge), inert pitting and patina, is well worn but still good and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard and ribbed grip are aged but good. The leather of the sabbard has surface flaking (can be addressed with leather balsam and / or shoe polish) but is sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
