In VGC, a Battle of Trafalgar era Blue & Gilt Etched Royal Naval Senior Officer’s Sword

Datable from 1802 (post 1801 Royal Coat of Arms) to 1805 (no crown above fouled anchor on langet), this fine Royal Navy senior (ivory grip) officer’s grip, with its magnificent blue and gilt blade etching, was around during the Battle of Trafalgar and, who knows, may even have been there. The sword has a suspension ring to the guard and the other to the scabbard’s top locket, though most officers used the scabbard’s suspension frog button.
The ivory registration number will be provided to the buyer proving it is legal for us to sell the item.
The gorgeous / stunning 28 1/4 inch blade has much of its fine blue and gilt etching remaining, remains in very good condition and is firm in the hilt. The gilt brass hilt / guard is in very good condition also. The fine ivory grip is in very good condition though has a typical / normal age hairline crack on one side, plus the associated twisted grip wire bindings are incomplete. The early 19C scabbard (no middle suspension ring band, frog button for suspension); the black leather is original but is a little aged with a few kinks also; the brass fittings are good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
