In very good condition, a 1930’s GV Gieves British Royal Naval Officer’s Sword

George V because no royal cypher; instead a British Royal Coat of Arms (Royal Cyphers appeared again with King Edward 8th). Mid 1930’s because it is etched simply to Gieves and has a “S” proved brass slug (not a “HW” Henry Wilkinson slug), which was seen on EVIII swords, so made at the end of George V’s reign. Engraved to “C Glynne-Owen R.N.” on the folding guard.
Pretty much parade ground quality which, with the fact there is no EVIII/GVI/ERII royal cypher to the blade, makes it eminently suitable for a serving officer today (under King Charles III).
The 31 1/4 inch blade is very well etched and in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The guard / hilt has good gilt remaining and is in very good condition. The white fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are very good. Original (presumed) sword knot is in incredibly good condition for its age. The leather of the scabbard and belts is a little aged; one of the belt straps is cracked. The all weather carry bag is aged but good considering its age. The folding section of the guard works well and locates properly onto the securing pin of the top scabbard locket.
