In good condition, the Victorian British Royal Rifles Officer’s Sword, Captain Lighton Clifton

Etched on the blade to “Royal Rifles” for the King’s Royal Rifles Corps with also the officer’s name “Capt Lighton Clifton”. Etched at the ricasso / forte to sword cutler “C Reeves, Air Street, Piccadilly, London” dating this sword from 1853 to 1861.
The 32 inch blade is in very good condition, etching still vivid, some scuffs, firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is good but with inert rust patches. The fishskin grip is good but worn (particularly under the pommel which is the wear point for active service swords), suggesting the sword was not only used for dress occasions; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are good but a lesser strand has started to go astray under the pommel (also from wear). The steel field service scabbard is good but plenty of inert rust patches. The sword sheathes and draws a tad loosely, so the scabbard’s inner wooden slat liners are likely gone (as is common).
