A rare item! Still with its original World War One camouflaged livery / paint! Marked “14. R. R.” and “404” to the inside of the guard for weapon number 404 of the 14th Reserve Regiment of Cavalry (Formed in August 1914 at Longmoor near Liss in Hampshire. They trained men for the 15th and 19th Hussars, the Derbyshire Yeomanry and the South Notts Hussars); this is the reason why this sword is in untouched WW1 livery condition, as it was not required for use in other respects after the war.
The 35 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / bowl guard in good shape, some scratches /age but not much. The composite grip in very good condition. The presumed original sword knot is very good considering. The leather covered scabbard has suffered leather loss and rust further down but is sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
