A rare 1845 pattern British General Staff Officer’s Wilkinson Sword and Scabbard in very good condition.

The crossed sword and baton in the hilt’s / guard’s cartouche tells us this sword was owned and worn by a general staff officer; the brass rather than steel scabbard implies a high rank. Serial number 11449 for 1861; Wilkinson sold this sword to the renowned military outfitters, Buckmaster (so we do not know the name of the officer who bought it from them).
The 32 1/2 inch period sharpened blade is in very good condition with very little wear or patina, though the little circular brass proof stud is missing. Blade firm in the brass “Gothic” hilt which still has the worn / aged . The fishskin grip in very good condition, just a little defect / cut / bulge in one section. The twisted grip wire bindings are good. The brass scabbard in very good shape but with aged brown tarnish (can be removed – most collectors prefer untouched). The sword sheathes and draws a little loosely, so the internal wooden slats have gone.
